It's amazing how fast time goes by, especially when it comes to technology. I remember, like it was yesterday, the first computer my family owned - back in the 1980's. It was a Tandy TRS-80.
In the way long ago times, it was state of the art... For about ten minutes. This sucker was fully loaded with 64 KILOBYTES of RAM. Yes, I said KILOBYTES.
--Not to mention the external 5 1/4 inch floppy disk drive and the optional tape drive (which was nothing more than a cassette recorder plugged into a side panel by cables).
There was no monitor that connected to this powerful machine. No, it connected to your television set. Yes, television set; back in the day when it was an analog signal sent via the airwaves.
Learning to program in Basic, was about as much fun as a root canal. But, oh, I remember it vividly. I had SO much fun playing hangman, tic tac toe, and a few other choice games that had me busy for "minutes" of enjoyment.
After that fun experience with the Tandy TRS-80, we had an old Apple II-e. you want to talk about a good time? With 8 colors and fantastic graphics! I thought I'd won the lottery. But then, out of nowhere came IBM and the IBM compatible machines run ing DOS, DOS Tree, and then came Windows!
Our first new fangled technology computer, was a Hewlett Packard 286 with a HUGE 50 megabyte hard drive; running Windows 3.1 (later upgraded to Windows 3.5)! And a new era of solitaire was born! (and let's not forget mine sweeper!)
After the years had come and gone, I'd moved away, and got my fist computer (built by my best friend). It was a Pentium III 600 MHz. After that, came my IBM Think Pad also a P-3 600 MHz. They were both lightning fast. But as time went on, lightning got faster and my computers got slower.
But Oh, the memories of learning to program in Visual Basic 6, then in VB.NET on said machines; fun times to be had all around.
Then, technology started advancing further and faster than before! The next computer I bought was a Compaq Presario, with a huge 17 inch monitor and CD Rom drive. I was in heaven with one full gigabyte of RAM and a 50 gigabyte hard drive. I was well on my way to success with a machine like this. There was no stopping progress, now!
After that came my HP Pavilion laptop. A few years later, my ASUS 5290. Programming and gaming just got real! Video editing and special effects compositing became so easy and fast that we came out with it as a product!
